Qualification -
Unit of Competency UEPMNT357 - Diagnose and repair faults in instrumentation equipment
Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to diagnose and repair instrumentation equipment, including, but not limited to, sensor elements, signal characterising equipment, input and output blocks, controllers, transducers and final elements.A fault is defined as an abnormal condition or defect at the component, equipment or system level which may lead to a failure. Diagnosing and repairing faults ensures the smooth and efficient operation of all instrumentation equipment in a power generation facility.Competency in this unit requires the ability to plan work, find and verify instrumentation equipment faults, determine cause and then repair faults in instrumentation equipment and to report on all completed work tasks. Individuals will, in general, work under supervision in an electrical, electronic and/or mechanical equipment repair workshop or on site. Power generation maintenance personnel are typically trained and authorised to receive permits to work. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Note: Workplace practiceThe application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit of competency may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace, where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Additional and/or other conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

Range is restricted to essential operating conditions and any other variables essential to the work environment.

Non-essential conditions may be found in the Companion Volume Implementation Guide.

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
